I never used to be a chip person. But during my second pregnancy, when I could barely keep anything down for all nine months, organic tortilla chips became my lifeline. Not exactly the pregnancy craving you'd put in a baby book, but they got me through those long, queasy months.

What I didn't expect was that this survival mechanism would awaken in me a genuine love of chips. Since a chip problem isn’t the best problem to have, I’m always looking for options that satisfy the craving without the heaviness of a fried snack.

So, I was excited to learn that Aldi is releasing two flavors of Clancy's Baked Ripples: Sour Cream & Onion and Ranch. The new chips will be on shelves for a limited time starting August 27. I’m hoping they’ll deliver big on flavor and crunch without the added oil, and become my new chip of choice.

Aldi Clancy’s Baked Ripple Chips

  • Price: $2.69 for a 6.25-ounce bag
  • Why I Love It: These rippled chips come in two classic flavors: Sour cream & Onion and Ranch. I love that they’re baked, not fried, making them a healthier alternative to regular chips.

Why I'm Excited To Try Aldi's Clancy's Baked Chips

The obvious reason is that they're baked, not fried, which means less fat than regular potato chips, while hopefully still delivering a satisfying crunch. I’m particularly excited about the sour cream and onion flavor because that combo is tangy, savory, and universally loved by both kids and adults.

The rippled texture is also calling out to me. I’ve heard that Clancy’s baked chips have a much sturdier texture, and those ridges are there for the crunch factor and designed to hold onto more flavor. Of course, I’m confident they’ll also provide the structural integrity needed for serious dipping

Sure, I'm planning to enjoy them straight from the bag during my next movie night, but I'm also plotting more creative uses. I'm thinking they'd make an incredible crunchy topping for a salad in place of croutons, or crushed up as a coating for baked chicken tenders.

They could be good anywhere I'd use homemade breadcrumbs, but want more flavor. I’ve been really into snacking on ranch-flavored rice crisps with cottage cheese, so I’m looking forward to trying the ranch variety with this combination, as well. I’ll probably just stock up on both flavors and call it research.

Aldi's brand, Clancy, has a reputation for delivering products that rival the big brands, and at $2.69, it's a no-brainer. I have a feeling these are going to become one of those discoveries that I wait for year after year. Because like all of Aldi’s special finds, they’re available until they sell out.
