They're a nice upgrade from marinara.

Prego Pasta Sauces
Availability:
- Creamy Tomato With Ricotta: May (Kroger, Publix, and Meijer)
- Creamy Tomato Garlic: May (Publix and Meijer) and June (Walmart)
- Spicy Vodka: May (Meijer)
Why I Love It: These sauces aren't too sweet and have short ingredient lists. They're creamy and coat pasta well while providing more flavor than a plain marinara.
Upgrading your bowl of pasta is as simple as adding thinly sliced fresh basil or topping it with creamy burrata cheese, but Prego has an even easier idea—substitute your regular marinara for one of its new sauces.
The brand recently launched three new tomato sauces that go beyond the basic marinara. There’s a creamy tomato-garlic sauce, a good starting point for those looking for a slightly upgraded marinara, a tomato-ricotta sauce for the cheese-lover, and a spicy vodka sauce for those who like a little heat. To see if the sauces were as delicious as they sounded, I tried them all.

How Prego's New Pasta Sauces Taste
Now, I’ve tried plenty of jars of sauce, and I'm usually disappointed. Many of the big brands I grew up eating fall flat on seasoning, relying on salt or sugar instead of acids, aromatics, herbs, and spices. That’s why I was excited to try these new sauces from Prego. Could these delicious-sounding sauces be the answer to my desire for something more interesting than marinara?
I almost couldn’t believe it, but I really enjoyed these sauces. The Spicy Vodka sauce was delightfully spicy but not overly so, and it was creamy enough to provide a lovely richness to the tomato base. It would be delicious with shrimp or chicken and a healthy grating of Parmesan.
The Tomato Ricotta was my least favorite of the three. While all the sauces hovered around two to three grams of added sugar per serving, this one tasted especially sweet, which I didn’t love. It was creamy and had a similar texture to the others, but the flavor just didn’t deliver.
The Tomato Garlic sauce, on the other hand, was my favorite. Its light sweetness didn't overpower the big garlic flavor. It was creamy and coated the noodles well. I love the short ingredient list and that I could really taste the tomatoes and garlic. It was delicious served with noodles and nothing else, which was impressive.
This one is perfect plain, but can be a good base for other ingredients like sautéed spinach, mushrooms, and peppers, or browned Italian sausage or ground beef. It's a pantry superstar!
