When I think of fall, there are a dozen or so recipes that immediately come to mind. Sometimes I actually make a physical list of the cold-weather meals that I'm the most excited to make once September rolls around. There are always a few that are high on the list: butternut squash soup, roasted vegetable harvest bowl, and Guinness beef stew. But the one that I usually save to make for the first cold and crisp autumn evening is shepherd's pie.
This hearty, comfort food is a classic for a reason. It combines everything I love—meat, vegetables, and potatoes—into one delicious, warming meal. But the one downside is that it can be time-consuming to make from scratch, so I was excited to find Aldi's Bremer Shepherd's Pie.
Aldi Bremer Shepherd’s Pie
- Price: $7.49 for a 30-ounce casserole
- Why I Love It: This freezer meal makes it easy and affordable to enjoy a shepherd’s pie without all the prep work or cleanup.
Why I Love Aldi’s Bremer Shepherd’s Pie
This blink-and-you'll-miss-it frozen dinner can be found on the bottom shelf of the frozen food aisle. When I spotted it, I was immediately curious. Considering that so many of my freezer favorites and pantry staples come from Aldi, I decided to give it a try.

Aldi's Bremer Shepard's Pie is an effortless way to have a hot, steaming shepherd's pie on the table in an hour. Once it's in the oven, you have time to make side dishes, tidy up the kitchen, unload the dishwasher—basically, whatever household chores you want to tackle in the downtime.
The shepherd's pie retails for $7.49, and the box says that it serves four. If you want this meal to serve four hungry people, you will definitely need to add a side salad or some extra vegetables to make it hearty enough.
Adding a bag of Aldi frozen green beans or peas would be an easy way to do that—plus they steam in the microwave, so again, less prep and fewer dishes! The shepherd's pie and a bag of frozen veggies would only set you back about $9, which is just $2.25 per person for a family of four.
As far as frozen meals go, this one is a winner. It's not too salty, nor is it bland, which can sometimes happen with frozen meals. I added a little bit of pepper to mine, but that was it. Leftovers also keep well in the fridge—reheat them in the microwave for 30 seconds or so.
The best part is that, aside from preheating the oven and opening the box, there is absolutely no prep work or cleanup. This meal could be something that you text your teenager to help with. When you're leaving work, ask them to put it in the oven so it's ready when you come home!
