You don’t expect to find shellfish tucked away in a vegetarian meal, but that’s exactly what turned up in a popular frozen spring roll sold at Aldi.
On October 8, Seattle-based Tai Foong USA announced a recall of its Fusia Asian Inspirations Veggie Spring Rolls after discovering they contain shrimp. The recalled Veggie Spring Rolls were distributed to Aldi stores nationwide.
Tai Foong announced the recall after discovering that its shrimp spring rolls had been inadvertently packaged in boxes labeled as Vegetable Spring Rolls. For plant-based eaters and anyone who doesn't like shrimp, the mislabeled spring rolls will be an unpleasant surprise. If someone who’s allergic to shellfish unknowingly eats the shrimp spring rolls, the consequences could be fatal.
As of this morning, October 9, Aldi has removed all of the affected Fusia spring rolls from its stores, but the shrimp spring rolls could still be in your freezer at home.
