When you’re in a pinch, cooking a frozen pizza is a great way to have dinner on the table in 15 minutes. If you shop for pizza at Trader Joe's, however, check the packaging before sharing it with the family.

On August 29, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza. The frozen pizza, imported from Italy, skipped a step in the import inspection process. It passed U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements but was never reinspected by FSIS.

In the inspection process, the FSIS performs a quality and safety check. From the growing radioactive shrimp recalls, we've learned it’s best to take necessary precautions with imported food.

This frozen pizza is no longer available for purchase at Trader Joe's, but the FSIS is concerned it may still be in shoppers' freezers. Here’s how to tell if your food is part of the recall:

  • Product: Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza Product of Italy
  • MFG Lot: 06/16/25 and 06/21/25
  • Best By Date: 08/16/26 and 08/21/26
  • Italy Establishment Number: IT 1558 L UE (found inside the Italian mark of inspection on the front of the package)

Trader Joe's shared a list of 67 stores that sold this pizza, all in California.

If you purchased Trader Joe's Uncured Pepperoni Pizza this summer and still have a box in your freezer, check the labels. The FSIS recommends either throwing the product away or returning it to Trader Joe's. Do not eat it. Trader Joe's has not said whether it will offer refunds for the product.
