Imagine opening a fresh half-gallon of ice cream, only to discover the flavor on the packaging isn't the flavor in the carton. This happens more often than we'd expect—in fact, it's at least the second time this month ice cream has been mispackaged.

For most of us, it's a frustrating but minor issue. For some people, though, this kind of labeling error could pose a serious health risk. That's why Blue Bell recalled its Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream.

What Caused the Recall?

While restocking Blue Bell ice cream at a retailer, a Blue Bell employee discovered Moo-llennium Crunch lids on Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough cartons. The cartons contained Moo-llennium Crunch, which is made with roasted pecans, chopped almonds, and walnut pieces—all of which are tree nuts, one of the most common food allergies in the country.

If someone who’s allergic to tree nuts unknowingly eats a spoonful of Moo-llennium Crunch thinking it's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, it could lead to a life-threatening reaction.
